We all know that God loves us. It is a basic element of our Christian faith. But maybe we don’t really know that. I didn’t for a long, long time. I was saved and in church faithfully. I still didn’t fully understand and believe that God could love me. That was one of those promises that applied to everyone else, just not me.
I was talking to an online friend recently and she admitted that she feels like God hates her. My heart was breaking. I now know God’s heart for His daughters, His children. Still far too often I can relate to where she finds herself. I remember how mad I used to get when people’s answers to my problems were God loves you. I couldn’t feel His love. If I am honest I still have days where I struggle to feel His love. There are times when if we are honest where we don’t feel His presence as much as we would like. It is just a normal part of the journey.
I answered that day with some truths from scripture. Although I know that sometimes the truths don’t impact us until we can get a heart revelation of His love. It took me years to get that. Even now it falters at times when I get blindsided by life. So for anyone out there that can relate I want to share a few promises that I hope will help.
- God is Love (1 John 4:8)
- God never changes (Numbers 23:19, Hebrews 13:8, James 1:17)
- Every good and perfect gift comes from above (James 1:17)
Our emotions can change often based upon the circumstances around us. God can’t change. God can’t hate us because hate is opposite His very nature. He loves you more than you can ever realize.
In the last year, God started really dealing with me on this. By now I knew God loved me. He started showing it to me in more tangible ways. I would simply begin to feel His love wash over me. Instead of looking to other sisters in Christ to show the love of God to me I began to feel God showing it to me.
So I challenge you if you are in doubt of His love, or maybe like me and just in a season where at times you can’t feel it as you would like to seek Him in prayer. Ask God to come in and break through the dark clouds surrounding you and ask Him to hold you close and to show you His love. Then wait expectantly as He begins to show you in a million little ways. Write them down, take note of them and then thank Him for all the ways you can see Him in your everyday life.
